Alfa Romeo 158 GP – 13 Years of Racing, One Moment Captured

BY Jean-Marie Corre

Nino Farina and the Quiet Power of the 158 Alfetta

When the legendary Alfetta 158 skims across a rain-slicked Grand Prix track, its streamlined form cutting through the mist, the artist captures more than speed - he reveals a moment where history, innovation, and emotion collide.

This unique 1/1 watercolor painting by French automotive artist Jean-Marie Corre pays homage to the Alfa Romeo 158, the car that defined an era and remains one of the most enduring icons in Formula 1 history. With a career spanning from 1938 to 1950, the Alfetta claimed countless victories - including the first official Formula One World Championship in 1950, with Giuseppe “Nino” Farina at the wheel.

In this composition, we witness the Alfetta in full flight, seen from a low angle as it dances over a soaked racetrack. The fluidity of the watercolor medium echoes the elegance of its bodywork - a masterpiece of early aerodynamic thinking, while the reflections on the wet surface recall the tension, precision, and grace of post-war Grand Prix racing.

It’s a symbol of Alfa Romeo’s engineering brilliance, its red livery etched forever into motorsport legend. Every brushstroke honors the fusion of form and function, capturing both the spirit of competition and the poetry of Italian design.

Whether you are a connoisseur of Alfa Romeo history, a collector of Formula 1 icons, or a lover of timeless automotive aesthetics, this one-of-a-kind painting offers a window into one of racing’s most celebrated machines.

For display, collection or legacyoffer the Alfetta 158 GP painting of Nino Farina as a moving sculpture of speed, heritage, and Italian mastery immortalized in watercolor.

  • From Shadows to Glory: The Legacy of the Alfa Romeo 158

The Alfetta 158 was born in secrecy in pre-war Italy, developed by Alfa Romeo’s Scuderia Ferrari before the team became independent. Its name "158" refers to its 1.5L straight-8 supercharged engine, a configuration that would dominate early Formula racing.

Despite the war interrupting its debut, the car returned in 1946 nearly untouched - and still unbeatable. Thanks to its lightweight tubular chassis, low center of gravity, and innovative transaxle, it offered unmatched balance and agility. In 1949, Juan Manuel Fangio made his Grand Prix debut in a 158, starting a dynasty.

Collectors revere the 158 not only for its performance longevity, but for its scarcity: original models are now museum pieces or locked in private Alfa collections. Few cars shaped the DNA of a brand like this one - influencing Alfa’s engineering ethos for decades. It’s a car that didn’t just race - it redefined what racing could be.

About the Artist.

The eye of an engineer, the soul of an artist

Jean-Marie is a self-taught artist whose passion is closely linked to the vintage cars his father collected. Engineer at a major french car manufacturer and painter in his spare time, he seized the opportunity of the health crisis to fulfill his childhood dream: to become a painter and exhibit his artwork at automotive events.

His work pays tribute to the golden age of motor racing (1950s-60s), a time when drivers were daring adventurers, driven by boundless courage. Jean-Marie strives to capture the essence of these suspended moments: uncovered faces, basic helmets, reflections on curved bodywork...

He composes his canvases like photographs taken by a photographer transported back in time, playing with light, light and shade, contrasts, and atmospheres. Acrylic allows him to enhance the details, while watercolor offers him more spontaneous freedom. Now recognized in the automotive art world, Jean-Marie offers a sensitive and poetic interpretation of classic cars.
