Ford GT40 Sculpture in Hand-Shaped Sheet Metal – A Tribute to a Racing Legend

BY Frédéric Girard

From Rivalry to Immortality – The GT40 metal sculpture for gentlemen drivers

Born from the fusion of artisanal excellence and motorsport history, this handcrafted sheet metal automotive sculpture pays an elegant and powerful tribute to the Ford GT40, the car that rewrote racing history by conquering Le Mans in the 1960s.

Each automotive sculpture, limited to only 8 exemplaries worldwide, is entirely hand-formed by French automotive sculptor Frédéric Girard. In a world where machines and digital modelling are frequently used to create car sculptures, this Ford automotive silhouette required nearly 50 hours of pure manual work, capturing every curve with authenticity, discipline, and passion - a true sculptural performance !

Echoing the aerodynamic profile and muscular stance of the Ford GT40, this automotive artwork celebrates the raw performance and purposeful design of this icon. The polished metal curves faithfully mirror those of the original, while offering a sleek, minimalist vision of this automotive legend born to beat Ferrari.

Fully customizable, this Ford automotive metal sculpture can be finished in the metal tone of your choice : satin, brushed, mirror-polished or lacquered finishes - a way to show how unique your own passion for cars and art is.

Entirely made in France, this automotive sculpture perpetuates the heritage of traditional coachbuilders. It is aimed at true connoisseurs of Ford history, discerning collectors and design enthusiasts who appreciate French craftsmanship.

Whether for exhibition, collection, or legacy - this sheet metal sculpture of a Ford GT40 is the ideal gift for a Ford car collector.

  • About the Ford GT40 : The American Icon Europe Feared

Unveiled in the early 1960s, the Ford GT40 was born out of rivalry: after Ferrari refused Ford’s acquisition attempt, Henry Ford II vowed to beat them at their own game - Le Mans.
The result was a car that not only competed, but won Le Mans four times in a row (1966–1969) - an unprecedented feat by an American manufacturer.

Engineered in partnership with Lola and Shelby American, the GT40 combined British chassis finesse with Detroit horsepower. The “40” in GT40 refers to its height - just 40 inches - making it one of the most compact and aggressive endurance cars of its era. In 1966, the 1-2-3 finish at Le Mans became legendary, especially the controversial photo finish where Ken Miles was denied a solo victory.

Today, original GT40s are among the most valuable race cars in existence, with chassis used in competition fetching tens of millions at auction.

About the artist.

From Motorcycles to Automotive Sculpture: The Brilliant Trajectory of a Master Metalworker

Frédéric Girard discovered the world of metal shaping at just 15 years old, when he first encountered the age-old craft of coachbuilding. Instantly captivated by the raw beauty of metalwork, he began a lifelong love story with the hammer, the mallet, and the lead stake - traditional tools that soon became an extension of his hands.

He became a motorcycle racer at 18, competing in world endurance championships for over a decade. Speed, precision, and adrenaline shaped his worldview - and they continue to fuel the curves of every sculpture he creates.

Specialising in fine aluminium work, Frédéric developed a deep appreciation for both technical mastery and the purity of mechanical design. Influenced by the vibrant, custom automotive culture of the 1980s - from Chromes & Flammes he began designing custom fuel tanks, an artistic turning point that would mark the beginning of his journey as a sculptor. Today, each of his automotive artworks reflects not just exceptional craftsmanship, but the soul of motion and machine.
