From Dieppe to Monte Carlo: What Made the A110 a Rally Legend

BY Jean-Marie Corre

When the Alpine Spirit Takes the Lead: Two Victories, Two Techniques

When the agile silhouette of the Alpine Renault A110 dances across a snow-covered curve or races toward Monte Carlo glory, the artists invites you to connect with history with this pair of one-of-a-kind artworks.

These exclusive compositions created by french automotive painter Jean-Marie Corre pay tribute to the golden era of rallying and to the legendary victories of the Renault Alpine A110 - icons of French motorsport that conquered the world stage with grace, courage, and precision. Hand-painted in acrylic and watercolor, each piece captures a decisive moment in Alpine’s ascent to greatness.

The 1971 A110 1600S, rendered in watercolor, immortalises the epic snow-drift that led Ove Andersson and David Stone to dominate the Monte Carlo Rally, taking the top spot and securing Alpine’s full podium sweep. The fluidity of the medium echoes the car’s lightness, the icy tension of a Monaco winter stage, and the sheer poetry of rally racing.

In acrylic, the 1973 A110 1800 celebrates Jean-Claude Andruet and “Biche” clinching victory in a fiercely contested finish. Brushwork brings out the sculpted curves of the Berlinette, its sharp headlights cutting through the night - a visual homage to the determination and finesse of the Alpine team as it seized the World Rally Championship crown.

Whether you are a discerning Alpine collector, a Monte-Carlo rally enthusiast, or a passionate admirer of French automotive design, these unique 1/1 automotive paintings offer an intimate and emotional window into Alpine’s most glorious hours.

For display, collection or legacy - celebrate the Alpine Renault A110 as a timeless emblem of french motorsport elegance.

  • Alpine A110 1971-1973: A competitive legend tailor-made for the Monte Carlo Rally

The Alpine A110, designed by Jean Rédélé and produced in Dieppe, is built on a steel space frame and fibreglass body, making it exceptionally light (around 700 kg). Its rear weight distribution gives it formidable agility on winding roads, particularly on the snow and ice of Monte Carlo.

In 1971, the 1600S version developed up to 138 hp, while the 1800 Group 4 of 1973 delivered even more. Very lively to drive, the berlinette requires finesse and commitment, making it a pure pleasure for experienced drivers. Factory models were often equipped with specific features: harnesses, additional Cibié headlights, roll bars and long-range fuel tanks.

Today, a genuine vintage A110, especially one with a racing history, is a coveted collector's item – rare, valuable and iconic. The A110 embodies the French spirit of daring, lightness and excellence.

About the Artist.

The eye of an engineer, the soul of an artist

Jean-Marie is a self-taught artist whose passion is closely linked to the vintage cars his father collected. Engineer at a major french car manufacturer and painter in his spare time, he seized the opportunity of the health crisis to fulfill his childhood dream: to become a painter and exhibit his artwork at automotive events.

His work pays tribute to the golden age of motor racing (1950s-60s), a time when drivers were daring adventurers, driven by boundless courage. Jean-Marie strives to capture the essence of these suspended moments: uncovered faces, basic helmets, reflections on curved bodywork...

He composes his canvases like photographs taken by a photographer transported back in time, playing with light, light and shade, contrasts, and atmospheres. Acrylic allows him to enhance the details, while watercolor offers him more spontaneous freedom. Now recognized in the automotive art world, Jean-Marie offers a sensitive and poetic interpretation of classic cars.
