The Last Roar: Enzo’s 1955 Ferrari F1 555 "Super Squalo"

In the Pits of Time: A 555 Super Squalo Moment

This original and unique (1/1) acrylic on canvas automotive artwork captures the raw, human charm of 1950s Grand Prix racing, when speed met improvisation and elegance coexisted with chaos. Centered around the iconic Ferrari 555 “Super Squalo”, the scene immerses us in a pit stop that feels more cinematic than clinical - where policemen, bystanders, and mechanics share space in the ballet of motorsport.

The automotive painter revives an era before carbon fiber and telemetry - when pit lanes were open to the crowd, and success depended more on the pilot's nerve than data transmitted by the engineers. The mechanics, stoic and focused, surround the Ferrari 555 with quiet determination, while around them, order teeters on the edge of spectacle. It’s not a race moment - it’s a cultural snapshot, frozen in oil, rubber, and grit.

For Ferrari collectors with a passion for heritage, this automotive painting is a tribute to Enzo Ferrari-era racing, where the Prancing Horse earned its mythology in the hands of flesh-and-blood men. The Ferrari F1 555, with its front-engined balance and sinuous bodywork, stands here not as a museum piece, but as a machine caught mid-life.

Whether displayed in a racing-themed gallery, a Ferrari collector’s garage, or alongside memorabilia from F1’s golden age, this automotive acrylic painting delivers emotion, nostalgia, and motorsport truth - the kind only the 1950s can offer.

For exhibition, collection or transmission - offer this Ferrari 555 F1 Pit Stop to a gentleman driver who not only collects fast red cars, but also moments that have marked the history of the brand.

  • Ferrari 555 F1: The Super Squalo and the End of an Era

The Ferrari 555 F1, nicknamed "Super Squalo" (Super Shark), debuted in 1955 as the final evolution of Ferrari’s front-engined Grand Prix cars before the rear-engine revolution. It featured a revised 2.5L inline-4 engine derived from the 553, with a more aerodynamic and aggressive body designed to compete under the Formula One regulations of the time.

Though often overshadowed by Mercedes’ W196 dominance, the 555 played a key role in preparing Ferrari for the shift to V6 and V8 powertrains. Its unique low nose, curved flanks, and distinctive finned tail gave it a predator-like silhouette, inspiring its sea-creature nickname. Driven by legendary names like Farina, Trintignant, and Castellotti, it fought valiantly in an era where death and glory sat side by side. Only a handful of chassis were produced, making surviving examples exceptionally rare and valuable.

Today, it is considered a symbol of Ferrari's transition phase, where classic design met the edge of modern engineering. For collectors, it represents the elegance and danger of 1950s Grand Prix racing, frozen in tubular frames and roaring red steel.

About the Artist.

The artist-designer who paints the soul of cars

The artist fell in love with cars while sitting on his father's shoulders, mesmerised by the racing cars of the Critérium des Cévennes. Inspired by Michel Vaillant from an early age, he associated drawing with speed: drawing a car meant already bringing it to life.

Educated at ENSAAMA and then at the Arts Décoratifs in Paris, he realized his dream by joining the Peugeot Style Centre in 1990. There, he refined his rigour for lines, elegant curves, precise & accurate detail. But it is in painting that he expresses his inner freedom, in a boundless universe.

The painter swapped his tablet for canvas and explored a wide range of techniques - watercolour, acrylic, oil, ink - with an unwavering passion for the curves of the Prancing Horse. His brushstrokes are fluid, spontaneous, almost choreographed. Each artwork becomes a "hand-to-hand connexion with the canvas", a scene in motion, vibrant with emotion, spontaneity and speed - his artistic signature, recognizable among thousands.
