  • Wings of Innovation: Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing

    Introduced in 1954, the Mercedes 300 SL (W198) was the world’s first production car with fuel injection, giving it 215 hp and making it the fastest car of its time. Originally developed from the 1952 Le Mans-winning race car, its iconic gullwing doors were a direct result of the innovative tubular spaceframe chassis, which made conventional doors impossible.

    Only 1,400 coupés were built between 1954 and 1957, making it highly desirable for collectors today. The car’s high-speed stability and signature “eyebrow” fenders earned it a reputation as both beauty and beast. Max Hoffman, Mercedes' U.S. importer, convinced the brand to build the SL for the American market - a move that cemented its legend overseas. Its lightweight aluminum body was available in just 29 units, known today as the holy grail among collectors.

    Famous owners include Clark Gable and Sophia Loren, adding to its cinematic aura. With prices regularly exceeding €1 million, the 300 SL remains a benchmark of German engineering and collectible excellence.

About the Artist.

The artist-designer who paints the soul of cars

The artist fell in love with cars while sitting on his father's shoulders, mesmerised by the racing cars of the Critérium des Cévennes. Inspired by Michel Vaillant from an early age, he associated drawing with speed: drawing a car meant already bringing it to life.

Educated at ENSAAMA and then at the Arts Décoratifs in Paris, he realized his dream by joining the Peugeot Style Centre in 1990. There, he refined his rigour for lines, elegant curves, precise & accurate detail. But it is in painting that he expresses his inner freedom, in a boundless universe.

The painter swapped his tablet for canvas and explored a wide range of techniques - watercolour, acrylic, oil, ink - with an unwavering passion for the curves of the Prancing Horse. His brushstrokes are fluid, spontaneous, almost choreographed. Each artwork becomes a "hand-to-hand connexion with the canvas", a scene in motion, vibrant with emotion, spontaneity and speed - his artistic signature, recognizable among thousands.
